About STEAMulater
STEAMulater LLC is a Black -owned sole proprietorship founded by Tamuka “Muk” Chidyausiku, Ph.D. Our goals @steamulater are to make science more accessible and engaging for a greater audience as well as to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). As a science communicator @steamulater aka Dr. Muk uses innovative approaches to combine science education with popular culture, notably through hip hop music and competition television shows.

Some key STEAMulater initiatives include:
#HipHopBiochemistry, a social media series which explores core molecular biology and biochemistry concepts through the lens of hip hop music. For instance, one episode discusses the structure of hemoglobin using Nicki Minaj's music as a thematic backdrop, aiming to bridge the gap between complex scientific ideas and pop culture to enhance learning and engagement. See more here: steamulater.com/hiphopbiochemistry.
#STEAMulaterGames, a reality TV-inspired competition-based game show that challenges citizen scientists to answer STEAM-based questions and compete for cash prizes. Students sign up and vote each other off until there is an ultimate winner but those who answer the questions correctly attain immunity from the vote off. Two seasons ran successfully in Summer 2023, S1 - #STEAMolympics, and Fall 2023, S2 - #AmazingSTEAMrace with students even presenting their work at the internationally renowned Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Students. S3 - #SquidBarbGames is set to run in the Summer of 2024.
The STEAMulater platform also hosts showcases & conferences, such as the 2021 STEAMulater Showcase, encouraging entrepreneurship in the STEAM fields. These events focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, promoting a wide array of voices and ideas in the scientific community. This includes efforts to connect with underrepresented groups in science and technology, providing resources and platforms for these voices to be heard and celebrated.
